Utilities Employees Credit Union (UECU) operates at a scale that demands more than a standard website. With over 180 pages of content, a broad portfolio of financial products, and strict regulatory requirements, their digital presence needed to function as a modern, flexible platform rather than a collection of static pages.

Media Components partnered with Utilities Employees Credit Union to completely rebuild their website from the ground up. The goal was to create a mobile-first, visually modern experience that would serve members while also acting as a powerful internal tool for product promotion, compliance management, and long-term growth.

Design & Planning Process

Before visual design began, the project moved through a structured planning and wireframing phase in Figma. During this stage, we defined page templates, content hierarchy, and core user flows to ensure the site’s architecture could support its scale from the outset. Wireframes were used to validate navigation logic, component behavior, and layout consistency early in the process, allowing design and development to move forward from a shared blueprint. This approach reduced iteration during build, streamlined approvals, and ensured that design decisions were driven by usability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

A Visual System Designed for Scale

The visual approach centered on structure and clarity. The site was designed using a block-based layout system that creates clear visual distinction between sections, making large volumes of content easier to scan and understand.

This structured approach establishes strong hierarchy across pages and ensures consistency throughout the site, regardless of content type. The design translates seamlessly from desktop to mobile, maintaining usability and visual balance across all screen sizes.

A Centralized Disclaimer Management Framework

One of the most critical components of the project was the development of a centralized disclaimer management system. Given the regulatory nature of a credit union website, disclaimers needed to be accurate, consistent, and easy to maintain across hundreds of pages.

We built a framework that allows all disclaimers to be managed from a single location and dynamically integrated throughout the site. The system automatically controls disclaimer numbering and order based on where each disclaimer appears on a page, eliminating manual tracking and reducing the risk of errors.

To improve the member experience, contextual tooltips were introduced, allowing visitors to read disclaimer information directly where it’s referenced, without needing to scroll to the bottom of the page. This approach maintains compliance while preserving readability and flow.

Mobile-First Rate Tables Built for Usability

Rate visibility was another key priority. We designed a centralized rate presentation system that organizes information using mobile-first accordions, allowing visitors to view and compare rates from a single location.

This structure makes complex financial data easier to digest, particularly on mobile devices, while also giving Utilities Employees Credit Union’s internal team an efficient way to update and manage rate information across the site.

A Faster, More Intuitive Search Experience

With a site of this size, search functionality plays a crucial role in usability. Instead of relying on a traditional results page, we implemented an enhanced search experience that displays results directly within the search interface.

This allows visitors to quickly locate relevant content without leaving their current context, reducing friction and improving overall navigation across a large, content-rich website.

A Mega Menu That Supports Navigation and Promotion

To support both discoverability and marketing goals, we designed a custom mega menu tailored to Utilities Employees Credit Union’s content structure.

For members, the mega menu simplifies navigation by clearly organizing a large volume of pages and reducing the number of steps required to reach key information. For Utilities Employees Credit Union, it serves as a promotional surface, allowing new products and services to be highlighted directly within the primary navigation. This type of navigation is especially effective for financial institutions, where clarity and product visibility are essential.

Subtle Interactivity Through Motion Design

To add a layer of refinement, we integrated lightweight mouse-tracking effects throughout the site. These subtle interactive animations respond to cursor movement, adding visual polish and engagement without impacting performance or accessibility.

The effects are intentionally restrained, enhancing the experience without distracting from content or slowing down the site.
